Is Senior Housing the Right Choice for You? 07/25/2010 - By 55 Community Guide
Senior Housing
Senior Housing can help you to feel less alone along during this next stage of your life. Just because you have retired from a full-time workload or reached a certain age does not mean you need to give up working, socializing and other interests.
If you are over 55 and are ready for a new style of living, senior housing could be the right option for you. There could be physical, social, or financial reasons for considering a move into senior housing. With so many vibrant and active senior communities available to pick from, this type of housing could be a wonderful fit for you as you head into the next era of your life.
You don’t necessarily need to be retired to live in senior housing, but you do generally need to be 55 years or older to qualify. This is partly due to zoning laws, but it is also to ensure that you will be living in the most suitable environment for you. Living close by to other independent seniors means that you will have respectful neighbors, as well as the opportunity to make many close and like-minded friends in your new housing community.
Senior Housing can help you to feel less alone along during this next stage of your life. Just because you have retired from a full-time workload or reached a certain age does not mean you need to give up working, socializing and other important interests. Senior living offers support as well as a chance to live as independently as you feel you are able to. Many communities offer all types of services including social excursions, regular buses, meals and even evenings out!
You don’t have to do it all on your own when you live in senior housing. Various aliments may mean that you can’t be as active as you once were. So why not let someone else take care of the lawn for you! Senior housing will generally take care of the upkeep of grounds, the repair of facilities and other services when required. For those requiring a little more care, cleaning, cooking and personal services may also be provided. It all depends on what stage of life you are at, and what you need to make yourself feel comfortable.

Senior housing can be either rented on a long-term lease or they can be purchased. Consider whether you are looking to invest or whether you would feel better just paying a weekly sum. Senior housing is usually partly subsidized, so the financial benefits are another good reason why this type of housing could be the right choice for you.
There are many good, solid reasons to choose senior housing. Why not take some of the strain off yourself by choosing a safe and supportive community to reside in? It may be just the right time for you to begin the next exciting stage of your life, in a wonderful senior housing community.
