Senior Apartments Becoming Popular 07/06/2010 - By 55 Community Guide

Senior Apartments Becoming Popular

Senior Apartments

Renting a senior apartment may be the way to go in this uncertain economy. Senior apartments term is trending up.

Why Senior Apartments

Senior  apartments is
a term I have noticed trending up in searches while
terms for other senior housing options have been trending down, mostly likely  a result of
the economy.   For example the terms active
adult communities and 55 communities are trending slightly down.

So why is senior apartments trending up?  Well in this market there are many obstacles
to buying a house, retirement home or not.
Fear of committing to a home purchase is certainly one of the concerns that
people have.  Obtaining financing and
getting a proper appraisal on a home
purchase is a big obstacle.   Even
when the buyer and seller agree on the sales price, the mortgage company
appraisal many times comes in  below that
agreed price and limits the amount of the mortgage one may receive.  The pendulum really does swings from being
too  loose to being too restrictive, so
it seems.

Renting before buying has always made sense when moving to a
new area, like many retirees do.  You can
rent for a year and check things out to see how you will like living in an
area.   If it is not as appealing as you
thought, then you just move at the end of the lease with no further
obligations.

Even if you like the area,
leasing for a year seems like a good idea as can explore different subdivision
and even take  your time finding the
right retirement home for you.   This
gives the extra benefit of having time to negotiate a good deal on your home
purchase.  If you offer is not accepted,
then you still have a place to stay.

Generally senior rental apartments have leases with a
penalty to break if  you move early, but
the penalty is usually reasonable and can be considered part of moving
expense.

All in all in this uncertain
economy, renting a senior apartment many be the way to go.
