Live, Laugh and Learn
Liberty Senior Center has a state-of-the-art fitness center that is designed to meet the needs of the mature adult age 60 and over. The fitness center is equipped with treadmills, recumbent bikes and steppers, strength training circuits, flexibility and stretching stations and more!
The Liberty Senior Center is an active facility with over 60 classes a week. On any given day, members may be enjoying music, taking an exercise class, interacting with speakers on a variety of topics, or socializing with friends. Classes that are offered include piano lessons, fitness classes, art, pottery, urban line dancing, crafts, tai chi, needle work and sewing, Jewish Culture, History of African Americans, Spanish, bridge and other life-long learning opportunities. Casual activities include billiards, scrabble, pinochle, bingo, mah jong and more.
The Liberty Senior Center maintains a very active Center Council, which plans social activities, evening dinner theaters, parties and travel programs. The center is involved in a broad range of community programs. The senior center has collected school supplies to donate to local schools in addition to making monetary donations to "Adopt a Student." The senior center knitting group projects include baby caps, infant blankets and finger puppets for Sinai Hospital.
Variety of Services Available
Services that are offered at Liberty Senior Center include tax counseling, health insurance counseling, Information and Assistance, Center Connection for frailer seniors, health screenings, nutrition education, employment assistance, volunteer opportunities, Home Team volunteer program, and housing information.
A unique dual Eating Together Program is offered at Liberty Senior Center, giving participants a choice of a Regular or Kosher meal. The meals are served at noon, Monday through Friday. A donation is suggested to help with meal cost.
The Center Connection Program serves the frailer, less active senior and integrates them into the center. The Center Connection Specialist works with the member to develop a schedule taking into account the senior's abilities, interests and needs.
The Home Team Volunteer Program matches volunteers with homebound seniors who need assistance to remain independent in their homes. Volunteers can provide shopping assistance, transportation to doctor appointments, friendly home visits or telephone calls.
The Community Outreach Worker can assist seniors in obtaining benefits and services such as Meals on Wheels, pharmacy assistance, fuel assistance, medical assistance and food stamps.
CountyRide Transportation can provide transportation for Baltimore County residents 60 years of age and over, disabled residents age 21 through 59, and those living in the rural area. Destinations include medical appointments, shopping and other general purpose trips. CountyRide tickets can be purchased at Liberty Senior Center.

The Caregiver's Support program allows caregivers to discuss issues, learn of resources and discuss problems they are having at home with caring for a friend or loved one.
History of the Center
The Liberty Senior Center opened in 1978 in rented space at the St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church and in December 1982 moved to Ascension and Prince of Peace Church. The Liberty Senior Center moved to its present facility as part of the Liberty Family Resource Center in February 1989.
