55+ / 62+ Senior Housing Communities

Senior Housing

Today's senior has several housing options curtailed to fit their lifestyle, budget and healthcare needs. More options are great, but it can also be overwhelming understanding the differences between senior housing options available. Let's take a look:

55+ Senior Communities

55+ communities are great for active seniors who want resort style amenities along with excellent social options. This is senior housing 55 and over age restricted to individuals 55 years of age and older. These communities typically have beautiful clubhouses as well as entertainment and dining options integrated into the community itself. Options may include wineries, restaurants, shopping and golf courses. Options include ownership, rental or lease. Structures may include single family homes, townhouses or apartments.

Independent Living

These communities are for seniors who are active and desire to live in an environment where there are social, recreational and educational activities. They may feature houses, condominiums or apartments. Independent living communities vary in their amenities and cost.

Assisted Living

Assisted living communities may include homes, apartments, condominiums or facilities. They are a hybrid form of senior housing that is designed for seniors who want their freedom and independence yet need some form of assistance such as meal preparation, prescription drug monitoring and coordination of services.

Nursing Home/Skilled Nursing Center

These are facilities designed for seniors who need 24-hour care.

Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) Now Called Life Plan Communities

A CCRC is a residential campus that provides seniors with living and care options that cover the entire continuum of care such as independent living, assisted living and skilled nursing. It is very convenient as the senior is able to live in one location even as their care needs increase.

Alzheimer's/Dementia Care

These may be standalone facilities or be part of an assisted living or skilled nursing community. They specialize in providing care for individuals suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia.
